Role of Becker + Becker

Becker + Becker’s design was selected as part of a competition to select architect/builder teams and was rated highest for design from over twenty submissions. Becker + Becker has provided architectural design and planning services for the project.

Unique Aspect of the Project

This is a new prototype for the Housing Authority which is integrated into the low-rise scale of the Lower East Side. The treatment of public space and access reverses the traditional spatial relationships in public housing. All unit entrances are directly off the street, including 3rd and 4th floor duplexes which have gated stair access from the second floor landing. A private landscaped courtyard serves all residents.
